Dr Craig Brownlie is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon. He has a personal interest in all aspects of shoulder, knee and hip surgery. In particular, the management of sporting and shoulder injuries, arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement.
Dr Brownlie prides himself on his clinical practice, contribution to research, and commitment to the ongoing education of junior clinicians and orthopaedic surgical trainees.
Dr Brownlie enjoys taking the time to get to know his patients and identify their treatment goals. He aims to include the patient in the decision-making process, and he prides himself on helping patients to achieve their goals. A strong emphasis on return to function and lifestyle forms the basis for patient treatment.
Originally from Mungindi and schooled locally in Toowoomba, Dr Brownlie completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Queensland in 2008. He subsequently went on to specialise in orthopaedic surgery, completing his training in Perth, Western Australia.
Dr Brownlie completed two fellowships at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Firstly, he gained experience in complex joint replacement surgery of the knee and hip. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in all aspects of shoulder surgery focusing on arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tears, stabilisation and replacement.
Dr Brownlie continued his shoulder sub-specialty training with a fellowship at the Royal London Hospital, one of London's Major Trauma Centres. He worked as part of the upper limb team in both acute trauma and the elective setting which allowed him to focus on specialising in all aspects of upper limb surgery, including hand, wrist and elbow surgery.
Since returning to Toowoomba, Dr Brownlie has taken up a consultant position at the Toowoomba Base Hospital where he is the Director of Training for Orthopaedic Registrars. This role focuses on training future orthopaedic surgeons to help them provide quality care to patients within Toowoomba and the surrounding regions.
Dr Brownlie also consults privately out of his rooms located at St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital and operates at both St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital Toowoomba.
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr Brownlie enjoys an active lifestyle playing golf and tennis and spending time with his family.
